Sue Thompson

Executive Director at Helmwood Healthcare Center

Sue Thompson came to Helmwood as administrator in July of 2013. Sue is a graduate of St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Huntington, West Virginia, and Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

She has worked in various positions as an RN, including the surgical floor at Ireland Army Hospital. She became Director of Nursing several years ago in a local long term care facility. She has been a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator for fifteen years. In addition, Sue started the first adult day care in Hardin County with a partner, who was also an RN.

She is a charter member of the Radcliff Presbyterian Church and is currently serving as an elder in the church. Sue reports that her hobbies include “retail therapy, spending time with my son and two grandchildren, which includes going to their sporting events and school activities, and traveling.”

She tells us, “At this time in my career, I feel that Helmwood Health Care is where I need to be,” citing a quote that resonates with her: “I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be.”

Carrie Brown, RN

Having worked as a floor nurse, and as Assistant Director of Nursing, Carrie is very familiar with life at Helmwood. She brings to her work a strong commitment to the residents as well as the ability to develop good rapport with staff members. It is a joy to have her in this role.

Carrie grew up in Elizabethtown. After attending the University of Kentucky for two years, Carrie studied at Spencerian College where she acquired her training as a registered nurse. She began her work as a LPN providing direct care and has worked in long term care for six years. When asked what she enjoys most about working in the field of geriatrics, she names the satisfaction of “giving back” to the older generation. “Their generation has worked so hard,” she says. “They have provided for their families, and I like being able to care for them in return.” Carrie came to Helmwood from a larger healthcare center. “I like the smaller setting, the family feel.”

Carrie has two daughters and a son. Aside from work, Carrie enjoys spending time with family and friends.
