PHSK’s geriatric occupational therapy program is an outpatient center that helps seniors with the skills that are necessary for them to perform their jobs and responsibilities. By enabling seniors to perform meaningful and purposeful occupations, occupational therapists hope that there will be a positive effect on their patients’ overall health.

Occupational therapy typically focuses on redeveloping those skills of individuals who suffer from a mentally, physically, developmentally, or emotionally disabling condition. The disabling conditions that geriatric occupational therapy clinics treat are a result of old age. Neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and stroke can have debilitating long-term effects and it is up to occupational therapists to restore seniors to their previous state of skills and abilities.

Our occupational therapy program helps seniors to perform all types of activities, including using a computer, cooking, dressing, and eating. Utilizing physical exercises to build strength and dexterity, as well as, other activities to help improve visual acuity, motor skills, and hand-eye coordination is the main priority of treatment. In addition, computer programs specifically designed by occupational therapists can help develop seniors’ decision-making, problem solving, reasoning, memory, and perceptual skills.
