Some of our Heath Care Center residents enjoyed lunch at Cracker Barrel (the residents’ restaurant of choice) on Friday, March 12, 2010, accompanied by members of the Activities Department.

Healthcare Center residents gathered for cake & karaoke on Friday, February 26, to celebrate all six February birthdays. We were pleased to celebrate the birthdays of Lucille Descisciolo, Wilma Wilson, Roger Thiersch, Leona Burns, Antonia Pratt, and Leotha Murrell.

Holly has been with Helmwood Healthcare for twelve years. She has shown her genuine care for our residents by always being ready to lend a helping hand. One can often hear her quick response, “No problem,” when asked if she can assist. Her warm comforting hands convey strength and reassurance to those in her care. Her kind smile and understanding nature calm any concern a resident may have. We are grateful for Holly’s presence and the sincere spirit she brings to Helmwood.

On Thursday, April 1, the children of Morningside Elementary and the Music Makers pre-school class will join the grandchildren of Helmwood Healthcare residents and the children and grandchildren of Helmwood staff members for an Easter Egg Hunt.  The youngsters will visit residents in their rooms and some who have assembled in the dining rooms to gather up eggs filled with candy and surprises.

Helmwood Healthcare, who has been part of this annual barbeque event since 2008, will be one of three facilities who will host members of the Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS) this summer.  The men of Elizabethtown First Presbyterian Church and Wink’s Smokehouse personnel (a local member of KCBS) will set up their cooking equipment at Helmwood on Friday morning to prepare enough food to feed residents and their families,staff and their families, and volunteers.

The merry revelry of Mardi Gras was evident in the festivities that were planned by the activity department at Helmwood Healthcare.

Residents enjoyed a creatively adorned King’s Cake, a ring of twisted bread topped with purple, green, and yellow icing and sugar.

They then decorated masks of their own and masqueraded throughout the facility in their creations.

Residents of Helmwood Healthcare dressed in all shades of red and pink to attend the annual Sweetheart Dance and

party that was held Saturday, February 13. Members of a local Girl Scout troop assisted with the event. 

Cookies, cheese and crackers, and punch were served and residents had their photographs taken

beneath a Valentine-decorated arbor. 

Wheelchairs were not a hindrance as many enjoyed dancing to the music.

To thank the dietary staff for all the delicious meals they prepare, the residents of Helmwood Healthcare

treated them to homemade chocolate pies.  Residents baked the crusts, stirred up the filling and

covered the dessert with whipped cream………all sugar-free, so everyone could have a big piece!
