Many at Presbyterian Homes of Louisville gathered on December 17 to enjoy cookies with Santa. Residents, staff, and some of the staff’s children were tickled to sit on Santa’s lap to share their wishes and enjoy some delicious cookies!

Presbyterian Homes of Louisville hosted its holiday open house for residents and their families on December 3. A buffet of holiday favorites was set up on each floor of Westminster Terrace, Rose Anna Hughes and the Healthcare Center. A pianist, harpist and string quartet provided beautiful accompaniment to the festivities.

In honor of Ann Miller’s 95th birthday, her daughter surprised her with a birthday celebration.  Singers serenaded Mrs. Miller and many well-wishers in the dining room which had been decorated for the special occasion.….everyone had a wonderful time.

PHL residents and staff enjoyed a magic show and “dressed the part” for the costume contest. Prizes were awarded to the “best of show.”

Physical therapy isn’t all about lifting weights and using the exercise bicycle. By incorporating the things people enjoy, sometimes it can be fun. When our therapy staff put on some music that Kathryn Gault liked – old Hank Williams tunes – she got up and started dancing! Kathryn found a willing partner in Kelly Croghan, PT. Kelly and the other rehab staff are eager to make therapy fun, whether it is through moving to music or cooking a meal together.

Many of our residents are not able to go out Christmas shopping, so our activities staff and volunteers bring the Christmas shopping to them. Each year, Debby Jennings, Activity Director, organizes the Christmas Store, in which residents can choose gifts for their family members without paying a dime. Shopping at the Christmas Store enables our residents to enjoy the pleasure of giving to their loved ones. Volunteers, family members, and staff donate dozens of items for the residents to choose from. Volunteers help the residents choose gifts for their children, grandchildren, nieces, or nephews and another group of volunteers gift-wrap the presents. The Christmas Store is quite an operation, made possible with the help and generosity of many angels and elves!

One of the many joys of the Christmas season is caroling – when beloved songs and goodwill come together! This year Helmwood residents were blessed with visits from no fewer than eight groups of carolers, including preschool and high school students, scout and church groups. Thank you to those who shared the gift of song with us!

Christmas Tea with the Ladies of First Presbyterian Church

The residents had a wonderful time when the ladies from First Presbyterian Church of Elizabethtown came to our center to host the annual Christmas Tea.  They had so many good snacks to eat, and some were homemade!  The residents enjoyed the entertainment: church members led Christmas carols, and then the residents heard a Christmas story.  Another woman shared a poem.

All in all it was a great, festive time.  The room was packed, and the residents enjoyed it so much!

The Mountain Arts Center, otherwise known as the MAC, became the venue for the third annual Bluegrass Benefit Concert for Good Shepherd Community Nursing Center and Cedar Creek Assisted Living Facility.  The night’s activities began with Blue River, a group from Louisville, Kentucky.  Our very own, Paula Alford, Clinical Systems Administrator in our home office in Louisville, is the bass player for the group.  Her husband, Glen Alford, is also a member of the group.  J D Crowe and the New South took the stage next.  The evening concluded with Crowe, Doyle Lawson, and Paul Williams on stage, a group of old friends who have played together for years.  They freely joked and poked fun of one another on stage, good clean fun with a lot of laughs.  Several residents from Good Shepherd Community Nursing Center were in attendance and decided this was the best concert yet…and staff agreed.  It was a great concert.  Special thanks to our friends for sharing their time and talent with us.
