Rehabilitative Therapy Programs
Remaining as independent as possible is important to a resident’s physical, mental, and emotional health. Residents who are experiencing the effects of stroke, arthritis, orthopedic or neuromuscular disorders, and other physical difficulties can improve functioning or learn compensatory techniques with the help of our therapy specialists.
Following a thorough assessment and goal setting sessions with the resident and his or her primary caregiver, a team of therapists, nursing staff, social services, dietary and activities personnel create a comprehensive plan of care. The plan includes one or more of the following therapies:
Physical Therapy
Physical therapy focuses on improving muscular and neural responses to decrease discomfort and increase physical strength, range of motion, and the ability to walk.
Occupational Therapy
The goal of occupational therapy is to improve a resident’s ability to complete activities of daily living, such as dressing, bathing, and personal grooming.
Speech Therapy
Improving a resident’s speech, language, hearing, and ability to swallow is achieved through speech therapy and dietary modifications.

Testimonials
Kathy Campbell, CMT, who celebrated her 31st anniversary with Presbyterian Homes on 11/22/07:
Ms. Campbell was thinking about Presbyterian Homes and what is most special to her about her 31 years here and she said, “The residents. It’s fun to have fun with them. My goal every day is to make my residents laugh and to make my nurse look good. If I do what I’m supposed to do, it reflects well on my nurse. And it would hurt me if I couldn’t laugh with my residents.”
Linda Mosley, CMT, who celebrated 27 years with Presbyterian Homes in August 2007:
Ms. Mosley said, “I enjoy interacting with the residents—finding out how interesting their lives are, knowing about what they did in their lives. I love their smiles and enjoy being able to care for them.”
Elizabeth “Libby” Bishop, who moved to Presbyterian Homes in 2001 and is Co-President of the Resident Council in the Health Care Centre:
Ms. Bishop stated, “I think of this as my home—if anyone ever asks me where my home is, it’s here at Presbyterian Homes. I’ve met so many people here who have more problems than I do and still have such a positive attitude, and the staff members have such a positive attitude—I like that. I enjoy being part of the Resident Council—it’s vigorous and positive. We work with the staff, and we get things done, because the staff really listens to the Resident Council. I feel well cared for here.”
A resident who has lived in Westminster Terrace Assisted Living for 11 years said, “I’m quite well satisfied. If you need anything, they’re going to do whatever they can for you. The atmosphere is good, and the food is good. The rehab is wonderful, and it’s nice to have them here, so you don’t have to go out for rehab. The times I’ve been in the Health Care Centre, they’ve been wonderful over there, too.”
