Testimonials
STAFF TESTIMONIAL:
I have known Paula for more than seven years and have come to greatly love and respect her. Paula is not only a wonderful person, but she also shows God’s love daily for others. Paula has an amazing gift of listening and consistently shows genuine concern and interest in others as well. She is able to gather information and achieve resolution, even in difficult matters. Paula believes that she is called by God to be at Helmwood and strives very hard to achieve our Mission Statement. Staff, residents, and families are blessed to know and have Paula as the Executive Director of Helmwood.

RESIDENT TESTIMONIAL:
I first met Paula when she worked here in the past as our Dietitian and have known her for almost five years. When she was here before, she did a very good job keeping me on track with my diet due to my health problems. Now that she’s the “big boss,” I am perfectly happy to be here with her as our Director. I am the President of the Resident Council and take notice of things. Paula listens to me and others. She is very, very friendly and relates good with others. She recently asked me to help her with a new project beginning in January. She has good ideas, and I am going to enjoy working with her.

Paula Thompson Sandfer
Executive Director
Helmwood Healthcare Center
1989: Bachelor of Science Degree from Western KY University
1992: Master of Science Degree from Eastern KY University
2001: Certified Federal Medicare Surveyor
2005: Licensed Nursing Home Administrator
15 years experience in long term care as a registered Dietitian, KY State Surveyor and a Nursing Home Administrator.
Management style “Coach”
Paula began her tenure at Helmwood Healthcare Center as the registered Dietitian and Dietary Manager. Paula left Helmwood to broaden her profession as a Certified Federal Medicare Surveyor and afterwards obtained her license as a Nursing Home Administrator. Paula has more than fifteen years of experience in long-term care. When the position of Executive Director became available at Helmwood, Paula was the first person to be contacted due to her high moral values and principles as well as her strong faith in God. Paula believes that long-term care is truly more than a job; it is a calling. “The work is too hard and scrutinized for anyone to endure for “just” a paycheck. Working in long-term care is one of only a few careers that allow you to make a measurable difference in the lives of others. Caring for our elders is one of the most rewarding jobs a person could choose.”
Tobi Sharp, RN, BSN
Director of Nursing
Helmwood Healthcare Center
Tobi Sharp is our newest addition to our Nursing Team. She began as the Director of Nursing at Helmwood Healthcare Center on April 30, 2008. Tobi has practiced as a nurse since 1991. She worked in critical care for ten years and had worked in long term care for seven years.
Tobi started her nursing journey as a “Candy Striper”. This experience along with a loving mother that was an RN developed her interest as a care giver and she went on to pursue a career in Nursing. Tobi is a proud mother of 3 girls and is a native of Kansas but has lived in Kentucky for 15 years. We are very pleased to have her talents at our facility.
