BERNIS CASEY AWARD

Presbyterian Homes and Services of Kentucky (PHSK) recognizes outstanding employees whose attitudes and actions capture and embody its mission. All employees of Presbyterian homes, in each of its four facilities, answer God’s call to lifecare for the aging and others by endeavoring to give compassionate care and superior service. The dedication of our employees to the shared mission provides the distinction that is Presbyterian Homes and Services of Kentucky. PHSK recognizes that excellent employees are a source of strength, innovation and reputation. The work they do, matters. It is the goal of each facility to recognize quality work, contributions and teamwork of outstanding employees throughout the year. Annually, each facility selects its employee of the year from those previously honored. From these facility employees of the year, the PHSK employee of the year is identified. This year, PHSK has recast and named this annual award recognizing the organization’s employee of the year, the Bernis Casey Award.

Bernis Casey was a stellar employee of Good Shepherd Community Nursing Center in Phelps, Kentucky, for twenty-eight years, until her death in February of 2010. Serving with enthusiasm, commitment and creativity, Bernis provided multiple ways for the residents to enjoy their lives to the fullest extent possible. She served quietly and was well-prepared to meet any challenge that might become an obstacle. Her deep and abiding faith in God propelled her through each day.

With gratitude for the years of devout service, Presbyterian Homes and Services of Kentucky has elected to recognize and honor an exemplary employee in the company that served with a remarkable and compassionate commitment to service of others. The Bernis Casey Award, inspired by the life of Bernis Casey, is awarded to the PHSK employee of the year in July.
