Volunteering at Helmwood

November 11th, 2009

Volunteers are an important part of Helmwood Healthcare’s mission of ministering to older adults and others in need of our special services.  The skills and creative abilities that volunteers bring to our community are a benefit to the care and comfort of our residents.  At this time Helmwood is looking to fill the following position:  General Assistance Volunteers.  These persons can choose to work two to four hours one day a week or month.  They will help escort residents to and from activities; read and play games that have been supplied by the activity director with individual residents; deliver the mail; be available to lend a hand with group endeavors.

Contact Cindy Miske at 270-737-2738 for more information.

Annual Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk

August 9th, 2010

Helmwood Healthcare will be participating in the annual Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk in Elizabethtown on September 25th, 2010 at Freeman Lake Park.  While the overall target of the local group is $46,000, Helmwood’s goal is to raise $1,000.  This will be achieved through weekly events that include a dunking booth at the Senior Q, casual for a cause day, a car wash, a bake sale, an auction as well as contributions that come from those who actually walk.  Donation boxes will also be set up in the lobby of the center.  Ella Ward, admissions director, Karen Hill, therapist from People First, and Cynthia Miske are co-captains of this endeavor.  A kick-off event will be part of the in-services on August 10th.
