hay4.jpghay3.jpghay2.jpghay1.jpgSurrounded by hay bales covered with blankets, the residents of Helmwood Healthcare went to the Double L Ranch to enjoy a hayride and picnic on June 27th.  The farm is owned by tow Helmwood volunteers, Jim and Norva Lark.  They rode through the fields laughing and singing while watching the wild turkeys, border collies and horses, one of which ran in the 2004 Kentucky Derby.  A lunch of grilled hot dogs, beans, salad and watermelon was eaten outdoors under the shade of tents. Everyone had a grand time.

“Project Lifesaver” is a program that assists families with elderly parents who are suffering from Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease to remain at home.  The Program uses state-of-the-art technology and specially trained search and rescue teams from the fire department, State Police, and local law enforcement officers.  People in the Program wear a personalized bracelet that emits a tracking signal.  When caregivers notify agencies the person is “missing”, a SAR team responds to the area of the “missing” person and starts searching with a mobile locater tracking unit.  According to National Project Lifesaver Headquarters, search times have been reduced from days and hours, to minutes.  The cost to initially fund this program is $10,000.00 for a five county area (Pike, Johnson, Magoffin, Floyd, and Martin).
