GOOD SHEPHERD TO HOST “Project Lifesaver” BENEFIT

July 29th, 2008

Good Shepherd Community Nursing Center and Big Sandy Ad – Committee for Elderly Abuse Awareness - will be hosting “Project Lifesaver” at the McCoy Athletic Center, Phelps High School Gymnasium on Saturday, August 2, 2008, at 6:00 PM.  Admission cost is $5.00.  The benefit show will consist of area Christian and Country music groups, an auction, and a Special Guest appearance by David and Mary Conley, the area couple who appeared on the hit TV reality show, “The Amazing Race” - season ten - and “The Amazing Race All Stars.”  The Conley’s will be available for autographs and questions after they tell about their experience on the show.

“Project Lifesaver” is a program that assists families with elderly parents who are suffering from Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease to remain at home.  The Program uses state-of-the-art technology and specially trained search and rescue teams from the fire department, State Police, and local law enforcement officers.  People in the Program wear a personalized bracelet that emits a tracking signal.  When caregivers notify agencies the person is “missing”, a SAR team responds to the area of the “missing” person and starts searching with a mobile locater tracking unit.  According to National Project Lifesaver Headquarters, search times have been reduced from days and hours, to minutes.  The cost to initially fund this program is $10,000.00 for a five county area (Pike, Johnson, Magoffin, Floyd, and Martin).
